About Board Foot Calculator
A board foot is 144 cubic inches of lumber: thickness (in) × width (in) × length (ft) ÷ 12. Add a row per board size, set quantities, and the tool totals the board feet and multiplies by your price per BF — the way hardwood dealers actually quote.
Common uses
- Total the board feet in a hardwood cut list before visiting the lumberyard
- Convert a $/BF quote into the real cost of a furniture project
Example
Input
2 pcs 1 in × 6 in × 8 ft + 3 pcs 2 in × 4 in × 10 ft at $5/BF
Output
28 board feet ≈ $140
Limitations
- Use nominal (rough-sawn) dimensions — surfaced lumber measures smaller but is sold by nominal size
