About Invoice Generator

Fill in who the invoice is from and who it's to, add the line items, and download a finished PDF. There's no account, no watermark, and no email address to hand over: the invoice is built in your browser and the PDF is created on your own device, so your client list and prices never touch a server.

The form keeps a draft as you type, saved only in this browser, so you can close the tab and pick up where you left off. When you're done, New invoice starts the next one with your own details, logo, currency, and payment details already filled in and the invoice number moved on by one (INV-0007 becomes INV-0008). Clear all wipes everything; both can be undone straight away.

What goes on the invoice

  • Your details and logo — any image works; it's resized and kept with the draft.
  • Invoice number, issue date, and due date — pick payment terms like Net 30 and the due date follows the issue date, or set one by hand.
  • Line items with a quantity, rate, and optional per-line discount and tax rate. Quantities can be fractional, for hours like 7.5.
  • A discount on the whole invoice (a percentage or a fixed amount), shipping, and amount paid for deposits, so the invoice shows the balance still due.
  • Payment details — bank account, IBAN, or a payment link — and notes.

Totals are calculated the way accounting software does it: each line is rounded to the cent, an invoice-wide discount is shared out across the lines before tax, and tax is calculated once per rate. Lines with different rates — 20% and 5% VAT, say — get a separate tax line each. Amounts use the currency's own decimals (yen have none), and the Options panel sets the number and date format, the paper size (A4 or US Letter), and what tax is called (VAT, GST, sales tax).

The PDF

The PDF is real text, not a picture, so it can be searched and copied, and it stays small — a few kilobytes plus the logo. Long descriptions wrap inside their column, and a long list of items flows onto further pages with the column headings repeated and page numbers in the footer.

Example

Input

Website design · 1 × $2,400 · 8.25% tax
Copywriting · 6.5 h × $85 · 8.25% tax
Stock photos · 3 × $19.99 · 10% off
5% invoice discount · $500 deposit paid

Output

Subtotal $3,006.47
Discount −$150.32
Tax 8.25% $231.40
Total $3,087.55
Balance due $2,587.55

The lines come to $2,400 + $552.50 + $53.97. The 5% discount is shared across all three in proportion, so the two taxed lines' base drops from $2,952.50 to $2,804.88 before the 8.25% tax is applied.

Limitations

  • The PDF uses Helvetica, the font built into every PDF reader. It covers English and Western European languages, including accented letters and the € and £ signs, but not Cyrillic, Greek, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, or letters like Polish ł. The page warns you when something won't print, and those characters appear as "?" — and when a currency's symbol (₹, ₽, zł) isn't in the font, amounts print with the code instead (INR 1,234.00).
  • Prices are entered before tax; tax-inclusive pricing isn't supported. Shipping is never taxed — if it's taxable where you are, add it as a line item with the tax rate.
  • It doesn't check that an invoice meets your country's legal requirements (a VAT number, sequential numbering, a reverse-charge statement); add what's needed in your details or notes.
  • The draft lives in this browser's storage. Clearing site data, or using a private window, loses it — download the PDF to keep a copy.

Frequently asked questions

Is this invoice generator really free?

Yes. There's no sign-up, no watermark, no limit on invoices, and no paid tier. Everything runs in your browser — the PDF is created on your device and nothing you type is sent to a server.

What should an invoice include?

At minimum: the word 'Invoice', a unique invoice number, the issue date, your name and contact details, your client's name and address, a description of what you provided with quantities and prices, the total due, the due date or payment terms, and how to pay. VAT-registered businesses usually also need their VAT number and the tax amount at each rate.

How do I number my invoices?

Use a sequence that never repeats or skips — INV-0001, INV-0002 — or one that includes the year, like 2026-001. Many tax authorities expect invoice numbers to be unique and sequential. The New invoice button increments the number automatically, keeping any prefix and zero padding.

What does Net 30 mean on an invoice?

Payment is due 30 days after the invoice date. Net 15, Net 45, and Net 60 work the same way, and 'Due on receipt' means payment is expected immediately. Pick the terms here and the due date is calculated from the issue date.

Where is my invoice saved?

In your browser's local storage on this device, and nowhere else. It reappears when you come back to the page in the same browser, but not on another device or in a private window. Download the PDF to keep a permanent copy.

How is tax calculated when lines have different rates?

Lines are grouped by tax rate, and the tax for each rate is calculated once on the total of its lines, after discounts — the way most accounting software and VAT rules expect. Each rate gets its own line in the totals, such as 'VAT 20%' and 'VAT 5%'.

Why do some characters show as a question mark in the PDF?

The PDF uses the standard Helvetica font that's built into every PDF reader, which keeps the file tiny but only covers Western European alphabets. Characters outside it — Cyrillic, Greek, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, and some Central European letters — print as '?'. The page lists them before you download, so you can transliterate them.

Can I add a deposit or partial payment?

Yes. Enter it under Amount paid and the invoice shows the total, the amount already paid, and the balance due. To invoice for a deposit itself, add it as a line item instead — for example 'Deposit — 50% of project fee'.
