Salary Tax Calculator

Estimate income tax, social contributions, and take-home pay on a salary, and compare the same salary — or two real offers — across 21 countries side by side.

Processed locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

Applied to every country in its own currency.

Countries (3)

Every country uses the gross salary above unless you give it one of its own — useful for weighing two real offers against each other.

Enter a gross salary and pick at least one country to compare take-home pay.

About Salary Tax Calculator

Enter a gross salary once and the tool runs it through 21 countries' tax systems at the same time: progressive income tax brackets, personal allowances and standard deductions, tax credits, surcharges, and the employee's own social contributions with their floors and ceilings. The comparison table ranks countries by the share of gross you actually keep, with take-home shown per year and per month.

Countries can also carry their own salary, which is the point when you have two real offers on the table — €80,000 in Berlin against $150,000 in Seattle. Each row is calculated and formatted in that country's currency; no exchange rates are applied, so the comparison is of tax systems rather than of purchasing power.

Every country expands into a breakdown showing taxable income, income tax, each contribution by name, and the assumptions behind it — the marginal rate is derived from the model itself, so it picks up quirks like the UK's 60% band where the personal allowance is withdrawn.

Common uses

  • Weigh a job offer abroad against your current salary in net terms
  • See what a relocation to a lower-tax country would actually add to your take-home pay
  • Work out the marginal rate on a raise before negotiating it
  • Sanity-check a payroll estimate or a recruiter's net-salary claim

Example

Input

85,000 gross · United States, United Kingdom, Germany

Output

US keeps 74.9% · UK 69.3% · Germany 58.0%

Amounts are in each country's own currency — the same figure, not a converted one.

Limitations

  • Estimates for the 2025 tax year, for a single filer with no dependants, employment income only, and no deductions beyond the standard ones. Marriage, children, and joint filing can change the result substantially.
  • Regional taxes are the biggest omission: US state, Canadian provincial, Italian regional, and Swiss cantonal taxes are not included, and Spain, Sweden, and Denmark use a typical or average local rate.
  • No exchange rates are applied and cost of living is not modelled — a higher take-home share does not mean a better standard of living.
  • Rates change every year and mid-year. Treat the output as a starting point for a conversation with an accountant, not as a payroll calculation.
