Countdown Timer

05:00

The remaining time also shows in the browser tab, and a short beep plays when the timer ends (keep this tab's sound on).

About Countdown Timer

A no-nonsense countdown: set a duration or tap a 1/5/10/25-minute preset, then start. The big display and progress bar show where you are, the remaining time mirrors into the browser tab so you can switch away, and a short synthesized beep plays when time is up — no audio files, no notifications permission.

Common uses

  • Run 25-minute focus blocks with the preset
  • Time tea, laundry, or oven checks while working in other tabs
  • Give talks and exercises a hard stop

Example

Input

Preset: 25 min

Output

25:00 counting down, tab shows 24:59… and beeps at zero

Limitations

  • The end-of-timer beep needs the tab's sound unmuted; browsers may block audio until you've interacted with the page.

Frequently asked questions

Will the countdown keep going if I work in another tab?

Yes. The timer tracks a fixed end timestamp instead of counting ticks, so background-tab throttling can't slow it down, and the remaining time is mirrored into the browser tab's title so you can glance at it from anywhere.

Why didn't I hear the beep when the timer finished?

Browsers block audio in tabs that are muted or that you haven't interacted with, and the beep is synthesized live rather than played from a file. Keep the tab's sound on and start the timer with a click and the three short beeps will play at zero.

Does this timer need notification permissions?

No. It never asks for browser notifications — the alert is a synthesized beep plus the tab-title countdown, so there's no permission prompt and nothing running outside the page.

Is the timer running on a server or in my browser?

Entirely in your browser. No server tracks your timer and nothing about your sessions is transmitted — which also means closing the tab ends the countdown.

Can I use this as a Pomodoro timer?

Yes — the 25-minute preset matches the classic Pomodoro work block. Tap it, start, and use the 5-minute preset for breaks between blocks.
